Dreary Monday Morning

After an exhausting week at the 20th Raindance Film Festival, I woke up this morning to a rainy Monday morning.  It's turning out to be the kind of day that I just want to curl up under a duvet and watch the rain falling from the comfort of my couch. A few deadlines coming up and my head is about to explode, not the time to get ill, but have been hanging around sick people all last week.  I've been asked to contribute a short story to a publication and suddenly find myself in the position of not having the time to write one due to other competing priorities.  How do I tell them, sorry but no can do?  If I sent them an email stating that all the words in the world have been stolen apart from the ones in my email, would they believe me?  In fact, that [...]

Why Do I Do This TO Myself?

Yep, it's 2:30am and I should be asleep in bed, but nope I'm still up doing sweet nothing.  I've got a Steve Kaplan masterclass that starts at 9:30 and you know I'm not going to be able to keep my eyes open.  I'm going to have to wear a hat or cap with a visor and reflective glasses just in case I drop off during the day.

It’s a Good Day Today

So what has happened today?  Well nothing major, it hasn't suddenly been optioned, a studio hasn't offered me a six figure sum to write the script.  What has happened is that, a very well known producer has just sent me the following text: "Can I say how much I enjoyed your book.  Lots to discuss about how to turn it into a script."  I know it's not a statement of intent, what excited me about it was 1. She (Yes it's a she) really enjoyed reading Imagine This. And 2. She sees some potential [...]

Do It Your Self

From time to time I meet someone who tells me they loved Imagine This and would like to see it as a film.  I've always resisted the idea, not because it won't make a good film, but because casting Lola is key and where do I find a Lola Ogunwole.  Add to that, the  fact that it would have to be shot on location.  Don't really think anyone would want to do a 2wk or however long it will take, shoot in a Nigerian village. Someone did suggest South Africa, but then that changes the atmosphere.  Another thing is that the first half  is set in the late 70s so costume will be another important factor.  I see so many things that could go wrong, however; now that I've got the film bug, I'm thinking I should just write, direct and produce it myself.  Yeah like that would ever happen, [...]
