Things have been busy and time has been a challenge, hence the reason for the long period between posts.  The Raindance Film Festival has come and gone and I saw More Cake on the big screen for the first time.  I don’t mind admitting this, it was an emotional experience for me, especially when I remember all the lows I encountered along the way.  But as they say, if a hurdle is put in front of you, jump over it.  If it’s too high, go under it.  If it’s too low go around it, just don’t give up.

Anyway, moving on because I do not like to dwell on things that happened in the past.  The absolute fantastic news is that More Cake has now been invited to screen at the 43 Molodist Film Festival in Kyiv.  Little ole me, has never been to Eastern Europe and really wanted to go, but thought I might have to wear a ski mask and hold up a bank with a sausage.  Luckily for me, I did not have to embark on a life of crime to feed my passion for film.  A shining knight called the British Council rode on its steed to rescue the damsel in distress in the form of a travel grant. Hooray, the heroine can travel to far distant land in search of fellow collaborators.

For all those emerging filmmakers like myself who have made their short film and are now wondering now what next. Make sure that you budget for festival fees and travel.  Don’t do what I did and think you just need to get the film made, yes you want to get the film made, you also want it to find an audience.  Film festivals provide that, getting into one, that’s another post.  In the meantime, the British Council have a travel grant fund for films which are accepted into festivals on their Key Festival List. Here is the link to the Shorts Support Scheme

Now what shall I wear for the red carpet? 🙂
