Name dropping

DJ,Is name dropping a good thing, especially if it opens doors that otherwise would've remained shut?    Still trying to push the book out but not making much headway, so decided to follow-up on the idea of having a PR person.  Sam from Henry's house, (found them on the internet) never got back to me, so I took it that: a. she didn't pass on my details, b. she did and the person wasn't interested or c. We all know what C. is, it's too horrifying and traumatic for me to even write down.  Seeing as they're not the only agency in the UK, I decided to look for someone else.  Let's face it, whoever I do end up with, is probably going to do a better job than me.  Anyway, moving on swiftly 'cos I don't like to dwell on my own inadequacies.  I was reading Scott's blog and [...]

Competitions

By |2007-07-18T11:30:00+00:00July 18th, 2007|Book Awards|0 Comments

DJ,I've been daydreaming.  In a moment of rash optimism, I entered Imagine This into two competitions.  I don't know what I was thinking at the time, because now thinking about it, I'm not sure it stands a chance against it's counterparts.  Not because the writing isn't good, but because I wonder if the judges can relate to the story.I went onto one of the competition websites and looked up last years winners.  What struck me was, all the stories were Eurocentric.  Maybe those were the stories they received, but it strikes me as odd.  Which got me to thinking about the judges.  When they read Imagine This, will the categorize it and say, it's a black story or will they see beyond colour and judge it on the quality of the writing.  Maybe I have nothing to worry about and I'm just letting the little devil on my shoulder drive [...]

Another day of grafting

By |2007-07-17T23:24:00+00:00July 17th, 2007|Random|0 Comments

DJ,Well the headline is completely untrue. I did absolutely nothing today apart from do a little lingerie shopping, chase a few emails and send another freebie out. This time to another literary agent, it's another case of wait and see. I don't know why, but now that I have no money to speak of, I keep wanting to buy things I don't need or really want. What's that all about.THOUGHT OF THE DAYDon't spend what you haven't got. (A most salient piece of advice, if I must say so.)

Neverending saga

By |2007-07-16T11:27:00+00:00July 16th, 2007|Uncategorized|0 Comments

The ongoing saga that never seems to end.  I think I'm psychic, either that or I'm cynical beyond my years.  Personally I think it's the years of disappointments finally adding up.  Anyway, Ruth came back to me on Friday reiterating what she'd already said in previous emails.  They're not buying unless the terms are SOR. Which is a shame, but I'm in full retreat so it's time to let go. I can't keep bashing my delicate head against a brick wall.I'm currently writing an article on myself for an e-zine.  The deadline is August, but I know what I'm like.  If I don't get it done now, I'll be crafting the day before it's due.  Bad habit I picked up at Uni. Don't do anything until a day before it's due. Once upon a time, I had oodles of time, or should I say I gave myself oodles of time [...]
