Day off

DJ,I'm having a day off from everything, it's all getting too much.  Not sure which direction to go next and I'm starting to feel like a beggar asking for crumbs from a wealthy relative.  I can either have another session of duvet crying or I can suck it up and grow another layer of skin.Great news, just as I'm tapping away thinking about my options, Dionne Grant from Young Voices - a magazine I've never read - has called me to say she'd received the copy of Imagine This and will be reviewing it in September's issue.  Brilliant, no giving up.THOUGHT OF THE DAYNo giving up, keep chipping away, keep calling and keep bugging them.

That's what I call cheapness, but I don't care because I've been told I've got to be a hard nosed business woman. No more freebies. If they're not doing anything for me, why should I let them keep a copy? [...]

Dj,Just finished the BBC interview.  I can't say it was a complete success, however the good news is that it wasn't a complete disaster. As I sit here and reflect on the conversation, I keep kicking myself, saying I should have said this, and I should have said that.  What's sticking in my craw at the moment is the point of being categorised as a black author.  Yes I'm black and I'm an author, but should that matter? Which I of course pointed out to him, Dotun's response to this was to say if I go to America, the millions of black people over there are more likely to read and identify with and buy my book.  What I should have done was point out the fact that those championing my cause are diverse in their ethnicity.  Why does it have to be about the colour of your skin? It irks me. Move [...]
